SMYN ONLINE RADIO WINS BEST RADIO CATEGORY AT THE EMERGE AFRICA AWARDS

Date: Saturday, 10 September 2022

There’s an old African proverb: “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together” and how everyone rallied and showed support for Show Me Your Number (SMYN) is testament to the solidarity that exists within the organization.

As an organization that seeks to reduce new HIV and TB infections, eradicate stigma and discrimination through the platform of sport, arts & culture using a human rights lens, we were definite underdogs in our nominated category going against more commercial and other online radio stations who have been around much longer than we have, and with a clear difference in content and messaging – we mainly promote health and human rights!

The very first Emerge Africa Awards are a brainchild of a beautiful lady called Petunia, who wanted to give recognition to individuals, businesses and organizations who are doing outstanding work in communities and the journey of Show Me Your Number Online Radio is one that is inspirational. From being nominated in April 2022 until August 31st when voting lines closed, SMYN colleagues and affiliates were hard at work sending in votes every single day.

After a long journey of voting, advocacy, and promotion, SMYN Online Radio was victorious and took home the highly coveted ‘Best Radio Category’ at the awards, winning over rival stations such as Alex FM, SAUMA HD Radio and Evoque FM to name a few.

“It is an honour to be recognized for the work that we do at SMYN, making a difference in people’s lives, changing, and shaping communities one program at a time.” In the words of our Executive Director Mabalane Mfundisi, we are emerging and have emerged victorious!

Thank you for your continuous support and congratulations to all winners at the Emerge Africa Awards 2022, here is to many more!
